Splendid" is not the word commonly associated with the process of getting a tattoo. "Scary" springs to mind - as does, "Ouchy-Hurty" or "Sting-o'-riffic!" But my two experiences at Studio City Tattoo have both been "Splendid!"
The shop is clean! The artists (and I am not just throwing that word around. These guys are "artists" in every sense of the word!) who do the work take time to talk to you about your tattoo - to make sure that the work they do is the work you want - nothing less.
Two weeks ago, Capt. Dave performed a three-hour epic tattooing of my upper left arm. It was a design that I had been dreaming about for a couple of years - I had an imperfect drawing and asked for some modifications. Dave knew exactly what I was looking for and took great care to make sure that this epic tattoo of my dreams did not become the gargantuan regret of my life. His interpretation was pitch perfect and spot on!
And Capt. Dave made the experience pleasant for me. There is no way to get around the fact that the process of tattooing is painful. It just is - but Capt. Dave seemed to have an empathic connection to my pain threshold and took breaks when needed and reminded me to take a breath when I deprived myself of oxygen. My satisfaction with the process is second only to my deep satisfaction with the outcome!

In the years that I have known Clay, I have found him to be a person who cares about others - his community, his employees and his customers! The folks who work at Studio City Tattoo and Body Piercing also show how they care for their customers in everything they do. As I was getting my most recent tattoo, I saw them work with many other people - some first-time tattoo recipients - some "well-inked" veterans. All of them were treated with dignity and respect - even a rather nutty person who seemed to come in off the street just to be goofy in public.
All are treated with respect and dignity - that's the hallmark of a community conscious business.
I'm already planning my next tattoo. I don't know when I'll get it - because I won't get inked anywhere but Studio City Tattoo - and I live over a thousand miles away. That's just how much I appreciate the work that all of them do!
They haven't figured out a way to make the process of getting a tattoo not a "hurty-ouchy-stingy" thing - but at Studio City Tattoo, you will be treated to an experience (and a result) that I believe you will agree is most, "splendid!"
