Elan supplied an email estimate of $125 to repair the intermittent driver window on a Solara. When he arrived he confirmed the cost would be $125 then presented an invoice for $150 when done. He said he had to replace a gear in addition to rebuilding the
motor. I'd had a bad feeling from the time I met him but the window was working so I paid. Less than a week later the window broke entirely. It was stuck at the 90 % down and would not move although you could hear the motor running if you tried to move it.
When I called Elan and explained he said it he'd repaired the motor and it was the regulator which was now bad and that was not covered under the warranty so there would be an additional charge. In spite of having a bad feeling I made an appointment for the
next morning. When he failed to show up I decided to open it up and look for myself. There was no issue with the regulator. It turns out a gear had slipped up the shaft (on the allegedly fixed motor) because he'd lost or broken the original snapring. He'd
bent one of the wrong size and forced it onto the shaft to hold the gear on. After a few days it worked its way off allowing the gear to slip and disconnect the motor from the regulator. I went to a hardware store, purchased the correct snapring, and reassembled
everything. BTW I did find another bent up snapring on the floor of the car and one of the nuts which was supposed to hold the motor to the door was down inside of the door panel. After seeing this shoddy work I didn't trust what else Elan had done to the
motor so I chose to go out and buy a regulator / motor assembly and install it myself. When I attempted to get a partial refund for his shoddy work he refused. My biggest mistake was failing to check online reviews for this company.
