"Evicted" 5 months after my lease was completed
I signed a 12-month lease with MCM Property Management which ended August 31, 2010. I gave 30 days written notice via email in June 2010. I still have this email in which I also provided my forwarding address in Arkansas. I also have follow-up emails providing the same info. Additionally, I have an email from MCM stating that my rent was current at the end of my lease.

Apparently, MCM then "evicted" me in January 2011. (5 months after my lease was over) for non-payment of rent for Oct, Nov and Dec. YES, MCM DOES NOT EVEN KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEIR CURRENT TENNANTS AND THEIR FORMER TENNANTS. To make matters worse, they "served" me for the lawsuit at the apartment I rented from them instead of at my forwarding address in Arkansas as required by law. So I had no idea I was even being sued so that I could show up and say "Why the heck are you suing ME? Sue your CURRENT tenants."

I did not find out about the "eviction" until August 2011 when I applied for a credit card. At that time, I contacted MCM's manager Barbara Jager. I forwarded her 20+ emails I had saved between myself and MCM's agent. (The agent who had signed my lease representing MCM.) At the time, Jager emailed me saying "I will check with our attorney AND ASK THAT SHE VACATE THE JUDGMENT as to you." Jager then ignored my follow-up emails and dodged my phone calls.

Finally, I was forced to hire an attorney at my own expense ($1,500) to force Jager/MCM to vacate the judgment against me. Barbara Jager has blamed everyone she can think of except herself and MCM for this mess. Her attorney even blamed the COURT for the judgment against me. I'm reasonably sure the court did not pick my name out of thin air and attach it to the lawsuit. Also, why would MCM "serve" me if they didn't intend to sue me? Obviously, I've never received an apology for any of this.

So to summarize...I was sued for eviction 5 months after my lease was up and no longer living in the apartment. I was not served a summons as required by law so that I could clarify the matter. When I found out about the judgment, I contacted MCM and was told in writing that the matter would be resolved. However, I had to hire and attorney at my own expense to force MCM to vacate the judgment. This judgment remained on my credit for over a year. It is FINALLY over as the judge just signed the order to vacate the judgment against me in March 2012.

Throughout this ordeal, Barbara Jager had a very arrogant attitude toward the matter. MCM wanted to make me feel like they were doing ME some sort of favor...like they were some sort of victim as well. (I never really understood what they were supposedly a victim of.)

I have never written a review for a business before. But I have also never dealt with a business like MCM and a person like Barbara Jager. I certainly hope I never have the displeasure of doing so again. I hope you find this review helpful if you ever consider renting an apartment from MCM Property Management.
