Please understand although there are active predatory companies, they start up and shut down so quickly it is difficult to keep up with them nevertheless locate and shut them down by any agency.

There are several consumer protection agencies to assist consumers in making decisions on whether to do business with any company, such as the Better Business Bureau, Dept of Consumer Affairs, your State Attorney General ..etc. In these economic times it has been necessary for everyone to be buyer beware and check out every company to avoid any misunderstands or more problems than what you began with.

HUD may still be available. Have you tried calling a HUD-approved nonprofit housing counselor? You can speak with a certified counselor by calling 888-995-4673. They can evaluate your housing options, open lines of communication with mortgage lenders, negotiate a loan modification, and help you with household budgeting, all at no cost.
